How to Reach Matheran from Mumbai

Mumbai is nearest urban city located about 100 km from Matheran. As Matheran is so near to Mumbai, it is favourite hill station among Mumbaikars. Even reaching Matheran from Mumbai is completely hassle-free.

How to Reach Matheran from Mumbai by Road:

  • Set off on the old Mumbai-Pune road (NH-4) through Dadar, Chembur, Vashi, Nerul, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Panvel
  • From Panvel use Mumbai Pune Expressway to avoid road traffic. (You need to pay toll)
  • Take the first exit Shedung Phata which arrives within 5 minutes after you get onto the expressway which brings back you to old Mumbai-Pune road.
  • After approximately 10-15 km of driving take left turn for Karjat/Matheran at the crossing.
  • After turning left you reach another crossing after 10 km. called Charphata Karjat. Again take left turn towards Neral.
  • After turning left, you will reach the bottom of the Matheran Hill ghat road within 1/2 hour.
  • Turn left here and climb to the Matheran Dasturi Car park. You need to leave your car there as that is the last point beyond which vehicles not allowed.
  • Park your car and start by walking or hire a horse to reach Matheran. Matheran Municipal council charges 25 Rs for adult and 10 Rs for children above 3 years as entrance fee.

Mumbai to Matheran by Train:

  • Take a local train to Khopoli or Karjat from CST and leave at Neral station. You can even opt for fast local to reach early as all fast trains become slow after Kalyan station.
  • From CST it would take around 2 ½ to 3 hours to reach Neral.
  • From Neral you can reach Matheran by toy train which would take approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours.
